Have you thought about "Engagement" invites yet? Tomorrow I'm going to look into the cost of renting a tent, table, and chairs. There's a place here in Crystal Lake that people use.

  1. I'm ok with doing informal invites, but Alice said she has as idea for a design.

  2. Do you like the idea of a fold up poster style similar to our wedding invite but a completely different design? I was thinking of a painting in goache and scanning and printing it at that sign express place I did ours at. Also my dad might be able to lend a tent. I'll ask him if it makes sense if you want.

  3. Yeah I do like the way yours were folded up!

I'm totally open to any designs, but I think a map-themed one would be cool. Or something with the outlines of Illinois + North Carolina.

  4. Okay. You were thinking of that for the actual wedding invite though right? I just was gonna work on the engagement party one for now if you want. Also are you going to do save the dates? Plan on spending a lot on postage in the next year...

  5. Yeah, the map theme is what I was thinking about for the invites to the reception.

I was going to hand out save-the-dates at the engagement party, and then mail them to the guests that can't attend the party, I guess. But really, I'd like to get the invites themselves out pretty soon, so I don't know if it would make sense to send a save-the-date and then an invite pretty much right after that.

  6. I feel like if you're having an engagement party you don't need the save the date if you don't want. You already have told people a date and if they don't know they'll find out at the party. Then you can just send the reception invites early.
